Rummy scoring explained
How points work in Indian Rummy: card values, the 80-point cap, drops and wrong-declaration penalties, plus how Pool and Deals formats differ.

Scoring in rummy counts penalty points: the lower your score, the better. The player who declares correctly scores zero for that deal, and everyone else adds up the cards that are not part of a valid group.
Card values
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10 | 10 each |
| 2 to 9 | Face value |
| Joker (printed or wild) | 0 |
What counts as penalty
- If you have a valid declaration, you score 0.
- If you have no pure sequence, every card in your hand counts, up to the cap.
- If you have a pure sequence but not all groups are valid, the cards outside valid sequences and sets count.
- The most any player can lose in one deal in points rummy is 80.
Dropping
A player may leave a deal early. Common values are 20 points for a first-turn drop and 40 for a middle drop, but exact numbers vary by variant and app, so check the rules screen.
Wrong declaration
Declaring with an invalid hand is penalised at the maximum, commonly 80 points, while the other players score as normal.
Formats
- Points rummy: one deal, lowest score wins.
- Deals rummy: a fixed number of deals, with totals added across them.
- Pool rummy: players are eliminated on reaching 101 or 201 points.
Variants differ between apps. Treat the numbers here as the common baseline and read each app’s own rules before a game.
