Rummy 500 (also known as 500 Rum) is played by 2 to 4 players. Unlike Indian Rummy, you may pick up several cards from the discard pile, and you score points for what you put on the table.
Deal
With two players, deal 13 cards each; with three or four players, deal 7 each. The remaining cards form the stock, and the top card starts the face-up discard pile, which is spread out so every card can be seen.
Your turn
- Draw from the stock, or take any card from the discard pile along with every card above it. You must be able to use the lowest card you take in a meld right away.
- Optionally meld sets or runs onto the table, or lay off cards onto any meld already on the table.
- Discard one card to end your turn.
Melds
- Set: three or four cards of the same rank.
- Run: three or more consecutive cards of one suit; the ace can be high or low in most rules.
Scoring
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Ace | 15 in a high run or set, 1 in a low run (A-2-3) |
| K, Q, J, 10 | 10 each |
| 2 to 9 | Face value |
A round ends when someone goes out by melding or discarding all their cards. Everyone adds the value of their melded cards and subtracts the cards left in hand. The first player to reach 500 wins.
