Rummikub is a tile game for 2 to 4 players. You place tiles in runs and groups on a shared table, and rearrange what is already there to get rid of your own tiles first.
The tiles
There are 106 tiles: the numbers 1 to 13 in four colours, two sets of each, plus two jokers.
Setup
Each player draws 14 tiles and keeps them on a rack. The rest are the pool.
Valid sets on the table
- Run: three or more consecutive numbers in the same colour, such as 4-5-6 in blue.
- Group: three or four tiles of the same number in different colours.
- A joker can stand in for any tile.
The opening meld
Your first play must total at least 30 points using tiles from your own rack only (a joker counts as the tile it replaces). You cannot use tiles already on the table until you have opened.
Later turns
- Add tiles from your rack to existing sets, or split and rearrange sets, as long as everything on the table is valid when you finish.
- If you cannot or do not want to play, draw one tile from the pool.
Winning
The first player to empty their rack wins the round. In scored games, the others count the tiles left on their rack as penalty points.
